Key responsibilities of a merchandiser include:
- Product Placement & Display: Setting up and maintaining visually appealing product displays, shelving, and, in retail, using techniques like colour blocking and creating, using Planograms.
- Inventory & Stock Management: Monitoring inventory levels, rotating stock, reordering products, ensuring shelves are fully stocked, and managing replenishment to minimize out-of-stock scenarios.
- Data Analysis & Forecasting: Reviewing sales data to evaluate performance, identifying top-selling items, and analyzing customer feedback to predict future demand.
- Pricing & Negotiations: Researching competitor pricing and establishing profitable, competitive price points for products.
- Supplier & Buyer Liaison: Coordinating with manufacturers and suppliers to secure stock, and acting as a liaison between suppliers and store managers to ensure product availability.
- Promotion Execution: Implementing promotional displays, advertising materials, and seasonal layouts, particularly for special marketing campaigns.
- In-House Product Development (Apparel/Manufacturing): Developing samples (fit, proto), booking, and managing accessories/trims, as well as obtaining necessary approvals for production.
